Renault to launch under Rs 4 lakh car in India soon
Renault India definitely has the guts to outshine others as after its entry with Renault Pulse in the small car segment, the French car major is soon to launch another small car which will be priced below Rs 4 lakh. However, there have been consistent reports of a possible ultra low cost (ULC) from the Renault-Bajaj-Nissan alliance, but the current disclosure straightway signifies Renault’s plans for India.
The under Rs 4 lakh car will be an instant hit in the small car segment which is also the largest segment in India and is currently dominated by the likes of Maruti Alto, Chevrolet Beat besides others. Currently Renault has only one small car offering and that is Renault Pulse which is priced at Rs 5.77 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi. The under Rs 4 lakh segment is the hottest car segment with almost 19 offerings from different car makers.

The striking revelation came during a launch event of the Renault’s small car Renault Pulse in Kolkata. Renault India chief Marc Nassif has reportedly said that for Renault under Rs 4 lakh category will be the target. He also stressed the fact that in India over 50 percent of the cars are priced in the Rs 2-4 lakh segment and entering the segment will be like entering the largest segment in India. On the occasion, the Renault Pulse was launched in Kolkata at a price of Rs 5.77 lakh.

Notably, launching an under Rs 4 lakh car is on Renault’s global agenda and the ultra low cost car could debut in India before it could see the light in other countries. Overall, Renault targets a sale of one lakh cars annually at its 100 outlets in the next one year. Presently, the French car maker has one sedan Renault Fluence with which it has made a fresh individual entry after it broke up with SUV maker Mahindra in 2011; it also has one SUV Renault Koleos, a hatchback Renault Pulse and an upcoming SUV Renault Duster. Renault will be launching Renault Duster in coming June. To complete its famous five cars, one more Renault car will be launched this autumn.
