Sales Of Petrol And Diesel Witness Hike In December 2022

The demand for petrol and diesel has witnessed an increase in December 2022. According to a recent report, the dynamic surge in the demand is due to increased demand by the agriculture sector and the recently concluded festive season. It is reported that the demand for petrol increased to 8.6 per cent in December 2022. In December 2022, 2.76 million tonnes of petrol was consumed as compared to 2.54 million tonnes of petrol consumed during the same period in 2021. The petrol sales in December 2022 are reported to be also higher than in December 2020 and December 2019.

Moving ahead, the report claims that the demand for petrol in December 2022 was also higher up to 3.7 per cent on an MoM (month-on-month) basis. The demand for diesel also witnessed an increase of 13 per cent in December 2022 as compared to the consumption of diesel in December 2021. The demand for diesel in December 2022 was also higher up to 14.8 per cent and 11.3 per cent in December 2020 and 2019 respectively. The month-on-month (MoM) demand for diesel however in December 2022 was 0.5 per cent lesser than in November 2022.

The reason behind the increased demand for diesel has been the excessive movement of heavy trucks across the country. The report also reveals that the sales of petrol and diesel declined in July and August 2022 due to the monsoon and less demand. After that, there had been a regular increase in the demand for petrol and diesel, especially during the festive season. The demand has been also high due to new launches, a decline in the cases of COVID-19, and static fuel pricing.
