Scoop: The First Glimpse Of Toyota Glanza

Finally the first look of the hatchback christened as Glanza under the collaboration of Japanese auto giants Toyota and Suzuki has been captured by spies while it was parked in the yards of the company’s production unit. The first teaser of the hatchback was released a few days back. Glanza essentially is the copied version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno hatchback with Toyota badge. From the images it is seen that despite of carrying the same looks similar to Baleno, Toyota Glanza still has lots of features like a newly styled front grille with tweaked face which differentiate from the Baleno. The chrome garnished slats receive the Toyota logo at the centre of the front fascia.

Mechanically the Glanza will be offered only in the petrol variant with two engine options of 1.2 litre, four cylinder K12 petrol engine outsourced from the Baleno and the other one might be 1.2 litre four cylinder engine, developed by the Toyota itself boosting the power of 79 bhp and the torque of 104Nm. Inside the cabin the Glanza outsources the same features as offered in the Baleno with minute tweaks to give it the feel of Toyota’s car. It would be interesting to know that the similarities between both the hatchbacks continue at the rear portion also.

After launch in the Indian car market the Glanza will go against the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz, and Hyundai i20. Going through the fact that segment is already dominated by the Maruti Suzuki Baleno it would be interesting to see that how Glanza succeeds in breaking its dominance. Because, as far as the price is concerned it is speculated that the Glanza would be offered with a high price tag as compared to its contenders.

The alliance of Toyota and Suzuki is not only restricted to sharing the vehicles, but also sharing the techniques and market. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both the groups was signed back in November 2017.
