Seat Belt Mandatory For Rear Passengers In Delhi
Amid the debate about wearing the seat belt by rear seat passengers, the Delhi government has made it necessary for rear seat passengers to wear seatbelts. According to recent reports, anyone sitting in the back seat without a seatbelt will have to pay the fine of Rs 1,000 on the spot. With this, the Delhi government becomes first government to make seat belts necessary for rear-seat passengers.

The implementation of making the rear seatbelt necessary for rear-seat passengers in Delhi comes after sad demise of former Tata Sons Chairman Cyrus Mistry in the road accident on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway. According to reports, Mistry was not wearing the seatbelt while his car was moving at high speed.
It was after his death, the central and state governments got serious about this matter, and going to make the integration of six-airbags compulsory in four-wheelers. The government is focussing on increasing the presence of the latest safety measures in vehicles. Recently the Union Minister of Road and Transport, Honourable, Nitin Gadkari, also announced that the central government is going to make seatbelts necessary for rear-seat passengers and fine the violators. The amount of the penalty will be announced once the government makes the rule mandatory.
