Skoda Slavia Debuts In India, Priced Rs 10.69 Lakh
Czech carmaker Skoda finally launched the Slavia sedan in the Indian car market with the starting price of Rs 10.69 lakh (ex-showroom price, India). Before this, the carmaker had initiated the bookings of the sedan at a down payment of Rs 11,000. It is the first sedan by Skoda that is made specifically for India. The platform used in its development will also be used in the upcoming sedan Virtus from the German carmaker Volkswagen. After launching in India, the Skoda Slavia will go against the likes of Honda City, which is priced at Rs 65,000 more than Slavia.
Under the hood, the Skoda Slavia will be available with a 1.0-litre TSI engine. The engine develops a power of 115 PS and a torque of 178Nm. There will be three trims. The top end-trim is priced at Rs 15.39 lakh and comes equipped with a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission system and sunroof as an option. The standard transmission system includes a six-speed manual gearbox. It is the first sedan made by the Czech carmaker specifically for India. It is based on the Made-for-India MQB-A0-IN platform. The same platform is used in developing the Kushaq SUV by the carmaker. It will deliver an average of 19.47 kmpl and touch the mark of 100 km/h in 10.7 seconds. According to reports, the company will launch its 1.5-litre variant in the coming few days.
Speaking on the launch of Slavia, Zac Hollis, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India, said, “The booking response we received for the Slavia has been overwhelming. With a localised content of 95 per cent, we have been able to price the Slavia competitively. With this launch, we are certain that the C segment sedan will grow substantially in the next few years.”
As far as the features available in Slavia are concerned, it receives a ten-inch touchscreen infotainment system that can download Skoda Play applications, and supports connectivity with Skoda Connect and wireless SmartLink. It also has an eight-inch coloured programmable digital cockpit. There are features of dual air conditioner vents and dual USB ports for rear-seat passengers. It is available with an option of five colours including Tornado Red, Carbon Steel, Brilliant Silver, Crystal Blue and Candy White. The company also offers a warranty of 4 years/1,00,000 kms as standard.
