Skoda To Raise Curtains From Kylaq SUV On November 6, 2024

Skoda Auto India, the Indian alliance of the Czech automaker Skoda is ready to unveil its first-ever subcompact SUV Kylaq in the Indian car market on November 6, 2024.  The announcement to launch the upcoming SUV was made in February 2023 last year. The Kylaq will go on sale from January 2025.

Commenting on the unveiling of the new SUV, Petr Janeba, Brand Director of Skoda Auto India, said, “Our focus is on the sub-four-metre segment, which holds the highest sales potential. The all-new SUV represents our boldest effort to penetrate this segment with a locally developed and named car. Kylaq’s price range will be competitive, matching other SUVs made by Indian carmakers.”

According to the company sources, Kylaq will be developed on the common MQB A0 IN platform shared between Volkswagen and Skoda. The same platform is used for other Skoda models like the Kushaq and Slavia. However, one thing which makes Kylaq different from other Skoda models with Volkswagen components, Kylaq will have no counterparts outsourced from Volkswagen.

Speaking about the design of Kylaq, nothing has been so far officially revealed by the carmaker, except the design images leaked online. From the pictures, it is seen that the SUV will feature a bold front grille, slim LED headlights, and daytime running lights (DRLs). The rear will sport LED taillights and a robust bumper design, while the interior will offer three headrests in the second row, indicating a focus on comfort.

Under the hood, the Skoda Kylaq is expected to come equipped with a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI petrol engine. The engine is likely to be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and a torque converter automatic unit. The Kylaq is anticipated to deliver around 114 bhp of maximum power and 178 Nm of peak torque, positioning it as a strong contender in the subcompact SUV segment. Once launched in the Indian car market, Kylaq will compete with the existing key leaders like Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, and Hyundai Venue.
