Small car sales ready to receive a blow in Delhi
Soon if the Delhites want to buy the new Renault Duster SUV or any other car they will be asked to furnish a proof that they have sufficient space to park it. This is the new funda that Delhi government is soon to adopt in order to put a check on the rising registration of private cars in Delhi. The hint for such an arrangement has though come via Rajasthan where the government following court order has banned parking on roads less than 30 feet wide. As per the auto industry experts, this will bring down car sales drastically and specially the small cars which are priced under Rs 5 lakh will be hit badly. The reason behind this assumption is that under Rs 5 lakh cars are generally bought by middle class income people or the mass in India and in Delhi they seldom have separate place to park their vehicle.

It is known that this arrangement is at the suggestion level only and the Delhi government is looking into the matter deeply and will weigh its merits and demerits. The other factor that the government should consider is that by implementing this law, it will be literally putting a ban on low price car sales and will be promoting premium car sales such as Mercedes Benz, BMW and Audi cars as the premium cars are bought by the economically sound population who have lots of parking space unlike the small car buyer who barely have their own home and they cannot think of buying a parking space. This will also be like persuading masses to buy two wheelers and avoid four wheelers.

As per sources, the new arrangement could be applicable in the entire National Capital Region. On an average over 1000 cars are registered in Delhi everyday and half of these are private cars and majority of the car owners might not have sufficient parking space. As an alternative to this, the government could allow street parking and will be charging Rs 1500 per month for such an arrangement.
