Suzuki to resume production of Alto in Pak

The breathtaking popularity of the Maruti Alto is unbeatable and it is in fact the bread and butter car for the car maker in India. Similarly, in Pakistan as well the car was very popular but it was discontinued in July this year following its non conformance to the new pollution standards just as the Maruti 800 was discontinued in India. Now, as per the latest media reports, the car maker is all set to revive production of Alto in Pakistan and have recently sought permission from the Pak government regarding import of Euro II compliant engines from India. Hopefully, the car maker will get the permission and it is quite possible that the production will kick off soon.

It is interesting to note that a lot of Maruti models were discontinued in Pakistan when it applied the Euro II pollution norms in June this year and since then the car maker has been desperately seeking permission to import engines from India. Reports further have confirmed that the import could have a green signal by December this year and after that the Euro II compliant models will be revived.

It is important to note that besides utility cars, Pakistan is a heaven for small cars and it is here that Maruti 800 has also relished some of the best times just as did in India before it was discontinued in metros where stringent pollution norms were applied. Now that the Alto is nearing its revival in Pakistan, it will be a matter of great enthusiasm for the car maker as this model will seriously increase the prospects of the car maker in the country. The small car Alto was a great hit in the country and Suzuki has sold unprecedented number of Altos in Pakistan. Just like India, Maruti (Suzuki) cars have a high brand value and people really appreciate their reliability.
