Switzerland To Ban Electric Vehicles

According to recent reports, Switzerland is going to ban the use of electric vehicles due to the energy crisis. This announcement by the Swiss government has come at a time when most countries of the world are encouraging and offering alluring incentives for using electric vehicles. Reports from Switzerland say that the country is undergoing a severe energy crisis. The major reason behind this crisis is the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. This has resulted in a huge deficiency of natural gas in Germany and France. The production of electricity has reached its lowest level in these nations.

Reports coming from Switzerland reveal that the government has drafted an urgent proposal for a partial ban on electric vehicles rather than an umbrella ban. At present, the  ‘Ordinance on Restrictions and Prohibitions on the Use of Electric Energy” is in draft mode and will get activated only when the energy crisis will reach the third level of escalation out of four.

The draft on banning the use of electric vehicles says, “The private use of electric cars is only permitted for necessary journeys (e.g. exercising one’s profession, shopping, visiting the doctor, attending religious events, attending court appointments)”. It also adds“restrictions and prohibitions on the use of electrical energy in order to secure the country’s electricity supply".
