Tata Elxsi Gets its Software Licensed For Use In Driverless Car
Domestic engineering designing firm Tata Elxsi has got its software licensed to one of the leading car manufacturing company to assist them in fastening their efforts for developing their driverless car. Named as AUTONOMAI, the middleware software from designing company will act as mediator between different hardware including radars, stereoscopic camera, artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms and radars that will make the driving software understand the critical driving conditions. It would be interested to know that Elxsi has not disclosed the name of company with which it has tied-up but it is believed that it must be among any of these companies viz, General Motors, Toyota, Volkswagen, Ford and Daimler.
About Tata Elxsi, the group is subsidiary of Tata Group and is already involved in business of supplying software based driving aids and assistance system to some renowned car makers across the world. With this collaboration the group has made its entrance in development technology being used for manufacturing autonomous vehicles. Commenting on company’s tie-up with one of the leading car manufacturing groups Mr. Nitin Pai, Senior, Vice-President, Marketing Tata Elxsi, said, We are delighted with this latest win for AUTONOMAI by one of the world's top 5 car OEMs (original equipment manufacturers)". Moving ahead he also added that "Carmakers will need to ensure that self-driving cars are able to communicate with each other through technologies such as V2X, adapt to different driving conditions, receive real-time maps and over-the-air software updates."
With self-driving cars being the hot topic in current scenario and all major car makers working hard in this direction and taking trials of their cars, it will be necessary that the software integrated in them is capable for understanding the local roads and driving conditions. Going through the rapid region-specific adaptation feature by making use of AI and machine learning the AUTONOMAI is endorsed to boost up the work of automakers.
