Tata Motors climbs back to the 3rd largest car maker position beating Mahindra
It has not been raining in the North India this Monsoon in July but it was raining Tata cars across the nation. This has led Tata Motors to regain its third largest car maker in India position pushing Mahindra to the fourth position again. The credit for the success goes again to Tata Nano that took a sharp upward swing with 68 percent growth. Next best gainer among Tata cars was Tata Indica that registered an increase of 52 percent sales over the same period last year while Tata Indigo was the next best gainer. Overall, Tata Motors sales in July grew by 15 percent on a year on year basis compared to only 9.2 percent growth achievement by Maruti India.

The other Tata cars including the SUVs Tata Sumo, Tata Safari, Tata Aria and the mini van Tata Venture also cumulatively achieved around 59 percent growth over last year. However, Tata Motors sold 2.62 lakh units in July which is only 2 percent higher than the same period last year. The auto industry critics have observed this to be quite alarming and strange that when each of its passenger cars had received no less the 50 percent boost in sales and the overall growth is only 2 percent. Meanwhile experts are of the opinion that the passenger cars share in the total Tata vehicle sales is less. Tata sold only 26,240 in July while Mahindra sold around 22,011 units.

Now that Tata has regained its position, it is expected to strengthen it with the help of the Tata Safari Storme launching soon. This will be the most happening first launch by the car maker where its rivals such as Mahindra have already launched Mahindra XUV 500 and new Mahindra Verito and have line up over five cars including Mahindra Xylo Mini, Mahindra Verito CS, Ssangyong Korando, Ssangyong Rexton and the electric car Mahindra Reva NXR. Launch of five new cars this Diwali will bring a sensation in the market while there are no immediate plans except the Safari Storme. However, if Tata is able launch Nano Diesel this Diwali, it is expected that it will be breaking all sales record and could position itself to the second largest car maker in the country beating Hyundai.
