Tata Motors To Manufacture Tigor At Its Gujarat Plant

It is reported that domestic car maker Tata Motors will manufacture the electronic version its recently launched compact sedan Tigor at its production unit located in Gujarat. The electronic Tigor’s manufactured at this plant would be supplied to Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). The electronic vehicles sold to the group would be supplied to the officials of the government departments to encourage the use of electronic vehicles for official purpose.

Domestic car maker had received the contract of Rs. 1,120 Crore from EESL to supply 10,000 electronic cars for use by the departments of the government. According to reports in the first phase 500 electric Tigor’s would be supplied to the EESL during the month of November this year, while the remaining 9500 would be supplied in the next phase.
 
Commenting on this Mr. Guenter Butschek, CEO and MD Tata Motors said that contract signed with EESL is an opportunity for the company to become the key player in encouraging the practice e-mobility within the country and boost up the endeavors of the government by making people aware about electric vehicles. He also added that along with Tigor the company is also working on bringing the electric versions of few more products manufactured by it.
 
The 10,000 units of Tigor would be manufactured within the period of nine months from the date company receives the letter of intent from the EESL. It would be interested to know that recently EESL the department under the ministry of Power had invited bids from manufacturers of electronic vehicles. In this contest domestic car maker Tata Motors succeeded in grabbing the invitation by placing the bid of Rs. 1,120 Crore. The other bidders were home grown car maker Mahindra and Mahindra and Japanese car maker Nissan motors.
