Tata to unite passenger and commercial networks

Tata Motors, in a new strategy to extend its reach to the customers lying in untouched areas, has decided to put up few selected passenger vehicle models for sales in its commercial vehicle dealerships. The company also plans to sell selected commercial vehicles at the passenger vehicle dealerships in the areas not directly covered by the commercial vehicle network. The move is done in a bid to overcome the limitations felt by the company in both the passenger and commercial networks.

An industry insider, with knowledge of the plans said that the Tata Motors made this move to unite both its passenger and commercial vehicle units into one. He added that the company wants to strengthen its foot hold in the market. The plan by Tata Motors is to sell models like Tata Nano, Tata Sumo Grande, Tata Venture and Tata Sumo Victa at commercial vehicle outlets in certain selected areas and commercial vehicles like Tata Winger and Tata Magic at the prospective passenger vehicle dealerships.

At present Tata Motors has 254 passenger vehicle dealerships handling 600 outlets and 1000 commercial vehicle outlets by 200 commercial vehicle dealerships. Majority of the commercial vehicle outlets belong to Tata Magic which paved way for the Lakh Rupee car, the Tata Nano.
