There would be hardly any person who must be knowing that the World EV Day is celebrated on September 9, every year, despite that the future mobility is going to mainly depend on these vehicles. Speaking about the future of these vehicles once Mr. Pratap Bose, Head of Design, Tata Motors had said, “A huge wave of electric mobility is coming, and nobody knows when. But when it comes, we want to be in the front.”

 

The celebration of this day is enough to reveal the importance of electric vehicles to maintain a pollution-free and green environment. But, unfortunately where the people in most of the countries have accepted the electric vehicles, in India the acceptance is not as encouraging. However, there are some car manufacturers like Tata Motors, Hyundai, and Mahindra & Mahindra who have their vehicles running on the roads, but except compact SUV Nexon from the domestic carmaker, Tata Motors none has succeeded in making its place among the buyers.

 

The famous EV’s in India at present are listed below:

 

Tata Nexon EV: Although, before the homegrown carmaker Tata Motors, one of the other domestic maker Mahindra and Mahindra had launched the e20 the two-seater car, but could not enjoy the expected success. On the other side, the compact SUV Nexon EV at present is the best electric vehicle available in India dominating the segment. Recently the company rolled out the 1000th unit of the Nexon EV from its production plant in Pune. According to the recent sales statistics, the Nexon EV dominates the electric segment with 62% of the EV sales during the first quarter of the financial year 2021.

 

 

Tata Tigor EV: The compact sedan Tigor from the Tata Motors is regarded as one of the best available compact sedans in the country. Interestingly, the Tata Motors is supplying the electric version of Tigor in the government departments as a part of its agreement for selling the electric vehicles in the government departments for encouraging its use among the government employees. The sedan offers an impressive average of 213 Km, after a single charge.

 

Mahindra e20 Plus: After launching the two-seater electric car e20 in the Indian car market domestic car maker Mahindra & Mahindra launched its upgraded version as e20 plus, offering an average of 80 km after a single charge. Unfortunately, despite various efforts, the electric vehicles from Mahindra and Mahindra are struggling for making their position in the segment.

 

Hyundai Kona Electric: Hyundai Motors India Limited, the Indian alliance of Korean carmaker Hyundai Motors had launched the compact SUV Kona with the starting price of Rs. 25.30, but later on reduced its price to Rs. 23.71 lakh after deducting GST. It offers an average of 452 km after a single charge This is the best average by any of the EVs running on the Indian roads.

 

MG ZS EV: After the successful launch of Hector SUV in the Indian car market, British carmaker launched ZS electric SUV in India. The SUV is empowered with a 44.5 kWh battery. It is reported to touch the mark of 100 kmph from standstill in 8.5 seconds.
