Top Level Management Meet Between Hyundai Motor And SK Group

It is reported that recently a top-level management meeting was organized between the Senior-Vice-Chairman of Korean carmaker Hyundai Motor Mr. Chung Eui-sun and Mr. Chey Tae-won, Chairman SK group to find the possibilities for developing the batteries of generation next electric vehicles and other technologies which can be shared between both the groups. Before this meeting, the Senior-Vice-Chairman of Hyundai Motors had also met with Lee Jae-yong, Vice-Chairman, Samsung Electronics, and Koo Kwang-mo, Chairman, LG Group, to develop an alliance among four leading groups, in the supervision of Hyundai Motor Group.

The meeting between Chung and Chey was organized at SK Innovation’s Seosan plant, where both the heads decided on developing the high-energy-density batteries, including lithium-metal batteries and rapid charging. The SK group is also involved in developing the power semiconductors, materials for new batteries, and battery services like providing battery on rent and exchange services. Along with this both the heads also talked on finding the potentials for expanding charging infrastructure of electric and hydrogen vehicles by using the SK Innovation’s gas and charging stations.
 
Briefing the meeting, Mr. Chung said, "We discussed the direction of future battery technology development and shared each other’s technology development efforts.” Whereas commenting on the same Mr. Chey said, "Our cooperation will be a new driving force for both groups and the Korean economy,”  moving ahead he also added, “I hope to enhance economic and social values together by combining our strengths and wisdom."
 
The construction of SK Innovation’s Seosan plant was completed back in 2012 and is capable of supplying 4.7 GWh of batteries annually. The batteries manufactured by the group are being deployed in the plug-in hybrid car manufactured by Hyundai Motor and it's subsidiary Kia Motors.
