Toyota and Ford to innovate Gas Electric hybrid system for SUVs

Now, here comes truly great news, two major competitors Ford and Toyota have joined hands to innovate a gas electric hybrid system to be used in light SUVs and light trucks. The giants have partnered signing a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding).

The motive behind this partnership is to develop a greater fuel economy system to be used for rear wheel drive vehicles preventing the power sacrifice. The giants will be working on to conduct a feasibility/compatibility study along with the preparation of a timetable to employ to-be-developed technology in the vehicles.

Although both the companies are to develop the system together, but the implementation will be done separately.  Standardizing computer mechanism and telematic communication are the parallel aims to be achieved keeping the future perspective in mind.

Takeshi Uchivamada, chief- Toyota research and development too has expressed EPA requirements to be a big challenge for all the automakers. Having high expectations with the collaboration, he said that the motive behind this venture is not just to lower down CO2 but to make SUVs and trucks more affordable.

Speaking to the press Alan Mulally, Chief Executive- Ford too has articulated his high aspiration with the joint venture, he said that working on this plan together, they will be competent to serve the advanced powertrains which will deliver the better fuel economy and lower the cost. He further said that such a collaborative effort is indeed required seeing the big energy and environment challenges globally.

Although, both the uneven competitors are working together on it, yet Spokesman for Toyota John Hanson clears that, it will definitely not turn both the giants lesser fierce in competition.
