Toyota cars record 49 percent growth in April, Etios, Etios Liva again the winners
Japan based Toyota Motors’ Indian subsidiary Toyota Kirloskar Motors has registered a high of 49 percent in its sales of April 2012. This positive news has came in when every other carmaker in the country is recording dip due to implementation of excise duty, causing hike in prices of their vehicles that is indirectly upsetting the sales. Toyota made sales of 14,378 vehicles in the recently concluded month of April, while last year in the same month it sold 9681 vehicles.

The vehicles that played a major role in the sales high were none other than Toyota Etios sedan and Toyota Etios Liva. This is the consecutive month in which Toyota has witnessed growth and that too on the shoulders of Etios siblings. As it made sales of 5,624 units this April in relation to 4,657 units sold in the same period in 2011.

In the utility segment that comprise of champions Toyota Fortuner SUV and Toyota Innova MUV it recorded a hefty hike of 72 percent and 90 percent respectively in April 2012. These growth numbers are against the sales of the two vehicles in April last year. Here Innova sold 6,582 units in comparison to 3,464 in the same period in 2011. These sales figures were admirable sighting the fact that Maruti Ertiga was also launched in the April month. There were 1,270 Fortuners sold against 739 last year in the said month along with premium sedan Toyota Corolla Altis securing sales of 881 units.
As per the company, Toyota was able to record this strengthening sales numbers due to its robust branding throughout the country. Currently the automotive industry is passing through tough times with hike in the prices of automobile post Union Budget 2012-13, which has adversely affected the sales in the auto market.
