Toyota IMV sales reach 5 mn mark, Innova and Fortuner in India major contributors

Toyota Motors has produced and sold over 5 million units of its international multi-purpose vehicle units worldwide. In India Totoya Innova and Toyota Fortuner are the Toyota IMVs in place. The Japanese car maker includes pick up trucks, sports utility vehicles and mini vans under this segment. As per media reports, the car maker has been able to attain this figure by selling IMVs in more than 140 countries across the globe. Notably, Innova has lately been given a facelift and there was a fresh demand coming in for this MPV in India. Also, the upcoming Maruti Ertiga launch could dent some part of Innova sales in India.

India is a significant from the point of view of IMVs as it is one of the 11 locations where Toyota builds these cars. In India, Toyota builds manual transmissions for the IMVs at its facility in India. It is from here that Toyota supplies the transmission systems to other 11 countries where the IMVs are manufactured. As per a media report, Toyota managing director Hiroshi Nakagawa has credited India as well to have contributed in the sales of Toyota IMVs. Significantly, it was Toyota Etios and Etios Liva and Toyota Innova MPV that has brought very good sales for the car maker in India in the month of March.

Innova is in fact the segment leader but some upcoming MPVs such as Maruti Ertiga, Nissan Evalia and Chevrolet Enjoy are all ready to be launched in India. Where Ertiga is scheduled to launch on April 11, Evalia and Enjoy are also expected soon. Meanwhile, other MPVs such as Tata Sumo, Mahindra Xylo and Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 BSIV that was launched recently are all gathering much response in India following their price in comparison to Innova. The Fortuner on the other hand has created its own space in India. With rivals such as Chevrolet Captiva and Ford Endeavour, the Toyota SUV stands by itself and has been best seller for some time.
