Toyota Innova, Fortuner and Hilux global production and sales crosses 5 million units

Toyota Motors, the Japanese auto-manufacturer today affirmed that it’s IMV (Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle) Series cumulative worldwide production and sales have crossed 5 million units mark. The IMV platform vehicles include the Hilux, the Toyota Innova and the Toyota Fortuner, out of which the Innova and the Fortuner are produced in India. The auto-giant established the IMV project in order to boost up the worldwide production and supply of Minivans, SUVs and Pick-up trucks that meets the demand of more than 140 nations across the globe.

Under this project, the company produces diesel in-lines in Thailand, petrol in-lines in Indonesia and manual transmissions in both Indian and Philippines. These vehicles are then supplied to the nations that produce the vehicles based on the IMV platform. The company manufactures this IMV series at 11 different locations worldwide. As far as the vehicle assembling is concerned the company uses facilities in Thailand, Argentina, Indonesia and South Africa. Besides this, there are four IMV production bases in total which export the IMV vehicles to different countries.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), Managing Director, Hiroshi Nakagawa commented that they are delighted to attain the 5 million unit record for worldwide production and sales of IMV series. He also commented that India stands are one of the major hubs for IMV series and has played a vital role in the success of IMV project. He added that this also states the consumers’ trust in MPV Innova and SUV Fortuner for over years that has given the company a grand success in the domestic auto-market.

The New Innova and New Fortuner have been very well received. The Innova and Fortuner are very successful models in India. Innova achieved cumulative sales of around 3, 28,000 units since its launch in 2005 and Fortuner around 30,000 units since its launch in 2009 added Mr. Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director – Marketing, TKM.
