Toyota Innova in need of a serious makeover to keep its turf intact
Is Toyota not-so serious about Toyota Innova? After a fabulous launch in 2004 and handful of facelifts since then en route, the Innova MPV is still in need of a serious makeover, perhaps a new generation indeed. As needed, but relatively less facelifts were received by Innova in 2009, then in 2011 and latest being at the Auto Expo. Notably, the Toyota Qualis replacement car did what its predecessor did to Toyota – unprecedented sales, sales and sales. Soon, Toyota Innova became the best selling MPV in India and still owns the crown. However, there are lot many entrants in queue such as Tavera Neo3 and recently launched new Mahindra Xylo.

Besides a facelift, there is an urgent need of Toyota launching an economy version of Innova. Currently the 8 seater Toyota Innova price is Rs 15.37 on road Mumbai and at this price still it is value for money. However, if a low priced version with new and improved looks is there, Toyota will be able to compete with the other players and will throw an entry level variant for MPV car buyers in India. But there is something in the Innova that has made it put up steady sales on the chart year after year. It indeed is the brand value and the car specifications that seems to attract car buyers looking for a long term car.
