Toyota Prius C hybrid hatch launched
The hybrid technology in cars seems to be the precursor to the electric and other alternative fuel technology for cars. Japanese auto major Toyota has launched the Toyota Prius C at the Detroit International Auto Show which is expected to deliver 22 kmpl (53mg) of mileage. The Toyota Prius C has been priced at $19, 000 (Rs 9.8 lakh) in the Detroit (largest city in US) which is also called as the Motor City, Motown of the world. Hope the Toyota Prius C hatchback comes to India and transforms the mobility standards.
Recently new Toyota Prius hybrid was launched in India by the Japanese auto maker and it will be sold in India as CBU and hence the price is a little higher. However, the Prius sedan will get all the features of its global siblings. The sedan had a meek response in India since its launch in India in 2010 and only 150 units were sold since then. New Toyota Prius hybrid price starts from Rs 27.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) to Rs 29.41 lakh. The new Toyota Prius hybrid comes with an automatic cooling system that switches on automatically if the interior heats up in the sun. The air conditioning uses power from the solar panel in the roof of the car.

The Toyota Prius C on the other hand is much cheaper than its gas-electric hybrid sold in US and is claimed to be much more powerful and fuel efficient city car in North America. The Prius C runs on a 1.5L petrol engine and it also has a 144v battery powering it. The battery automatically charges when the 1.5L engine is on and does not need a recharge through an external plug.
Toyota President Jim Letnz stressing the need of hybrids in the present scenarios reportedly said that the Prius C will certainly put forward an excellent option in the hybrid small car section and he also reiterated the growing demand for hybrids cars in US and the world.
