Toyota Unveils C+Pod Minuscule EV In Japan, To Rival Mahindra E20

The Japanese carmaker Toyota Motors has unveiled an ultra-compact electric vehicle similar to Mahindra E20 or Reva for the commuters in small intra-cities. The company had showcased its prototype during the Tokyo Motor Show held last year in Japan. Dimensionally it is 1,290 mm wide and 1,550 mm tall and weighs up to 690 kg. It is capable of accommodating two people along with luggage which could be kept behind the seats. The vehicle can constitute an important source of transportation in the cities with an excess of traffic.

Under the hood, it is empowered with a 9.06 kWh lithium-ion battery offering an average of 150 km once it is fully charged. With the top speed of 60 kmph, it generates the power of 12 bhp and the torque of 56Nm. The worth mentioning feature of this electric vehicle is that it doesn’t make noise while driving.

In India where the car manufacturing companies are being encouraged to manufacture the quadricycle to cope with the increasing problem of pollution and the traffic on roads, the number of such vehicles can be counted on fingers. On the contrary, there is a huge potential for the growth of such vehicles in the Indian car market, especially when they are offered at the affordable price. If launched in India, the C+Pod can be a tough contender to Mahindra Reva and E20.

It is believed that the Japanese carmaker will also bring the C+Pod in India, where the government is committed to encourage the use of electric vehicles to fight against the increasing problem of pollution. Moving ahead the C+Pod can constitute a good option of the transportation for the people living in tier 2 or smaller cities. It can also impress the people willing to replace their existing two-wheeler with the car.
