Uttarakhand Government Gets 20 Electric Cars From EESL
Going through the government of India’s initiative for encouraging the use of electric cars in its departments, the state government of Uttarakhand has received 20 electric cars from the Energy Efficient Services Limited (EESL) to make people aware about the benefits of electric vehicles. The first flee of 20 electric cars was received by Mr. Utpal Kumar Singh, the Chief Secretary of the State in the presence of Ms. Radhika Jha, Secretary (Department of Power, Government of Uttarakhand). The delivery of these electric cas is the part of National Elelectric Mobility Plan (NEMP) initiated by the Central Government under which it speculates to sales 60 t o 70 lakh units of hybrid and electric vehicles every year after 2020.

According to Mr. Radhika Jha, Secretary (Power), the state government of Uttarakhand will be paying Rs. 38,000 to the EESL as the part of rent including the salary of driver’s for using these vehicles. The per day cost of charging these vehicles would Rs. 15 per day and after the vehicle is fully charged it could be driven up-to 140 kms.
In the words of an officer of EESL, the use of electric car will help in minimizing the financial expenses of the government for importing crude oil. It will also result in minimizing the carbon footprint resulting the decrease of 5.6 lakh tones of carbon dioxide emission.
