Volkswagen eyes to become the top car maker in the world as Skoda expands aggressively

Volkswagen, the largest car maker in the European market, is now aiming to become the largest car maker in the global market, with its subsidiary Skoda expanding its operations in the mass segment of car. Skoda Auto is aiming to grow at twice as fast as its parent in the world market. The company has already lined-up a range of cars that are competing with the line-up its parent Volkswagen including sedans like Skoda Superb and Skoda Wagon. Moreover, the company is now looking forward to sell small car Skoda Citigo in the Czech Republic, with a lucrative price tag of $10,000.

According to the company, it is eying to register a double digit growth and plans to start its operations in the remaining countries of the world by year 2018. As per the company, the Fabia hatchback will have a major role to play in expanding company’s foot prints in the global market.

Aiming to expand its portfolio aggressively, the company is targeting to roll-out at least two new models each year. The company is aiming to increase its sales by 84 percent to 1.41 million units over the period of next 6-7 years, as compared to current figure of 768,000 vehicles (total sales last year).

If Skoda gets successful with its aggressive expansion strategy, its will certainly help its parent Volkswagen in taking over the likes of General Motors and Toyota, and become the largest car maker in the world.

At present, the Skoda product line-up in the Indian market include hatchback Skoda Fabia, midsize sedan Skoda Rapid, premium sedans like Skoda Laura and Skoda Superb, and Sports utility vehicle Skoda Yeti.
