German carmaker Volkswagen has launched the BS-VI compliant versions of hatchback Polo and compact sedan Vento in India with the starting price of Rs. 5.82 lakh and Rs. 8.86 lakh respectively. Both the prices are ex-showroom prices in India. Both the cars are now empowered with a 1.0-liter petrol engine developed strictly according to BS-VI norms and thus replaces the existing 1.2-liter and 1.6-liter petrol engine. As far as upgrading of the diesel engine is concerned the company has completely pulled it out from its line-up as a part of its strategy in India.
According to reports, the new 1.0-liter BS-VI compliant engine represents the EA211 engine series and an interesting feature of this update is the introduction of the same engine in power performing TSI version where it boosts the power of 108 bhp and the torque of 175 Nm. Moving ahead the Polo TSI for the first time is mated with a six-speed manual gear transmission system, and replaces the 7-speed DSG transmission system.

The Trendline, Comfortline and Highline Plus variants in Polo hatchback are empowered with a 1.0-liter MPI engine, while the Highline Plus and GT Line variants are offered with 1.0-liter TSI engine. As far as the price of the new BS-6 engine is concerned there is not any change, except the top-end variants which are now priced Rs. 4,000 higher than their existing price tag. However, the GT variants with the TSI engine are priced Rs. 17,000 higher than the BS-IV empowered engine.
Moving towards BS-VI compliant Vento, the new 1.0-liter TSI engine churns the same power of developed by Polo GT. The price of entry-level variants has been priced almost Rs.10,000 higher than their existing version, while the top-end variants are priced Rs.12,000 higher. The only difference between Polo and Vento is that automatic engine transmission is now only offered in the Highline and Highline Plus trims.
