Volkswagen to launch low cost cars in India after Datsun, Dacia checks in
The small car segment in the price band of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4 lakh is expected to hot up very soon. With big launches on cards by Nissan’s low cost car brand Datsun and Renault’s Dacia brand, the German car maker Volkswagen will also be entering this segment with its low cost under 5000 Euro cars in the next three years. Where there will be some activity from Datsun this year and a series of launches next year, Dacia is also gearing up for a similar affair. Meanwhile VW will be launching its low cost cars sometime in 2016. These cars will be positioned much below Volkswagen Polo and Volkswagen Vento.

Though termed to be too late, but better late than never is what seems to Volkswagen’s low cost car debut in India. It is believed that Volkswagen Up will be part of the low cost car launches by VW in India and Skoda Citigo will ensue it soon after. Notably, it is after much brainstorming and survey that VW has at last reportedly reached to this conclusion of launching such pocket friendly cars in the country. As per experts, these low priced Volkswagen cars will be instant hits as people have seen and driven Polos and Ventos and other VW cars in India and they know how quality, safety and comfort conscious the brand is. Though these low priced VW cars will not promise these to the extent of Polo and Vento but it is sure that there will be German engineering doing marvel under the hood, outside and inside these cars.

Meanwhile, where VW is thinking of launching new cars, Nissan and Renault are busy in finalizing the launch sequence of their low cost cars. As per the latest reports, two Datsun cars will be unveiled this year followed by their launch at the Auto Expo in February next year. Renault too is finalizing the line of Dacia cars after the first rebadged Renault Duster is in and fabulously dominating the segment. Both Dacia and Datsun cars will be produced at the Oragadam plant with high level of localization and high degree of platform and component sharing.
