Volvo appoints Jeev Milkha Singh as brand ambassador, expects 50 percent growth

Swedish car giant Volvo is on an expansion spree in India. Spearheading its brand in India will be golfer Jeev Milkha Singh who was appointed as the brand ambassador. In addition to this, the car maker has set itself on to a journey in India in which it targets to double its car sales. With currently four Volvo cars in India, the brand aims to sell 50 percent more cars in this year. The car maker has two luxury sedans and two SUVs in the country and it seems to starts local assembling of the Volvo cars so that the price could be made more competitive. Volvo XC60 and Volvo XC90are SUVs by the car maker while Volvo S60 and S80 are sedans.

Part of the promotional campaign, Jeev Milkha Singh gets a XC90 SUV which will be a symbol of his association with the brand. Currently growing at more than 114 percent, the car maker aims to introduce Volvo S40 sports crossover in India soon. In India since 2007, the car maker has its presence in almost all the major metros of India and it expects to expand its network in other parts as well so as to attain the expansion target as well as sales target. In addition to this, the expansion and launch of new cars in India will help the car maker attain this in less time.

Though the car maker is currently growing at 114 percent but looking at the market conditions and the slowness in demand of cars in India, it expects the sales to grow by 50 percent this year. Notably, Volvo cars are a major rival of Audi and BMW cars in India and its XC90 and SC60 SUVs are close rivals of Audi Q5 and Audi Q7 SUVs. In addition to this, BMW X3 and BMW X5 are also its rivals in SUV segment.
