Volvo opens new showroom in Bengaluru, mulls over assembly plant

In an attempt to extend its presence in the country and build its brand, Volvo Cars India has opened a dealership in Bengaluru. This new dealership is strategic from the point of view of sale of its luxury cars in India. Meanwhile, the car maker also aims to launch the new models of Volvo S60 and Volvo S80 sedans and the Volvo XC60 crossover this year. With such aggressive strategy laid out for India, the car brand is fast moving ahead and could become a challenge for Audi India and Mercedes Benz India besides BMW. Car maker aims to sell as high as 200 Volvo cars at the new dealership this year. This is though not a big target considering the fact that Bengaluru is known for luxury car buying but the current phase of meekness in the car industry could diminish its prospects in the country.

The new dealership at Bengaluru spreads in 7000 sq feet area and is the largest showroom of Volvo compared to the showrooms in other parts of India. The Swedish car maker aims to showcase the entire fleet of its cars here and being one of the hub of luxury cars India, the target it has set seems quite achievable. The reason behind this high hope is that in Bangalore over 2000 units of luxury cars were sold last year and despite the rise in price as well as the slump in the market, the analysts believe that the market will grow by 25 percent. If not 25 percent, it will grow by 20 percent at least, said sources.

In the meantime, in order to bring down the its products, the car maker is sincerely thinking of an assembling plant in India so that it can price its cars in a better way and position them competitively against the German cars. The location, the amount it will invest and other details are still awaited but it is sure that it will be somewhere in South India as the car maker has decent presence in that region. Meanwhile, the car maker is readying the Volvo V40 Cross Country for a launch in July.
