Audi plans slew of launches for mid 2012, Q7 to be assembled locally

After toppling Mercedes from its number two position in the luxury car segment in India, Audi now eyes to move slowly towards the number one slot which is currently conquered by its German counterpart, BMW. Audi has been able to expand its wings in the domestic market by continually bringing in new cars in India. For the current year too Audi has lined up a slew of launches for the Indian car market. After slipping in Audi TT in India in the beginning of the year, Audi now plans to roll out Audi Q3 in the month of June. Audi’s new compact SUV, Q3 will rival BMW’s entry level SUV, BMW X1. Apart from Q3, Audi will spawn the facelift version of Audi A4 by the mid of 2012 and will also roll out Audi S6 by the year end.  Audi India is also planning to expand the production capacity of its facility located in Aurangabad.

At the 11th Auto Expo held in New Delhi, Audi displayed the new Q3 compact SUV which is conceived on its sibling Volkswagen Tiguan. Audi Q3 SUV is expected to be housed with the 2.0 liter diesel engine which is currently powering Audi A4, Volkswagen Passat and Skoda Superb. The Q3 SUV is expected to be launched in both 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive options. Audi might also bestow upon a six speed transmission to the new Q3 SUV. Audi eyes at cracking the volume segment with this compact SUV and hence to make it a huge success in the domestic market Audi needs to price it aggressively. The alleged price of the Q3 SUV is around Rs 25 lakhs, though, the actual price will be revealed only after the car breaks cover in India.

Another car that will be inducted in Audi India’s portfolio is the S6 sedan; the luxury saloon will be powered with a 4.0 liter, twin turbo V8 engine that is capable of churning out robust power with meager fuel consumption. Audi S6 sedan is expected to beak covers in India by the festival of lights Diwali.

In wake of expanding its reach and strengthening its grip over the thriving Indian car market, Audi will begin assembling one of its most popular SUV, Audi Q7 in India. The local assembly of the SUV will begin by the end of 2012. Localisation will certainly pull down the cost of the SUV and hence help surging the demand in India.
