Best cars of the year: Maruti Swift, Honda Brio, Hyundai Verna, Mahindra XUV500
Maruti Swift, Honda Brio, Hyundai Verna and Mahindra XUV 500 has come out as the winners of the Best Car of the year in their respective segments. These hot wheels have been awarded the NDTV Car and Bike Awards 2012, recently. The listing of the car models included not only the vehicles that are manufactured in India, but also the imported vehicles that are sold in the country.
The ceremony of award distribution was held at the Buddh International Circuit located at Greater Noida. In the seventh edition of the famous awards, there were many automobile categories that received the honor for being the best among the rest.

In the passenger car segment the most wanted hatchback car in India, Maruti Swift was named as the Premium hatch of the year. In this category there has to be a Maruti vehicle, as the whole segment is all-in-all ruled by Maruti Suzuki in India with more than 40 percent market share. The promising small car Honda Brio, from the Japanese carmaker Honda was crowned with the title of small car of the year. The mesmerizing design philosophy by Hyundai was bound to create history, as its model Hyundai Verna Fluidic easily emerged champion in the compact sedan of the year category.

In the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment, Indian utility major; Mahindra & Mahindra’s acclaimed product Global SUV Mahindra XUV 500 walked away as the obvious winner in the form of SUV of the year. While the best selling quality SUV in the nation, the BMW X1 from German marquee BMW, was picked as the premium SUV of the year.
In the luxury mid-sized sedan segment, Volkswagen Jetta was announced the winner, whilst the Swedish auto giant’s luxurious product Volvo S60 grabbed the award for being the full-sized sedan of the year.

Audi; which holds its German premium luxury flag high in India, was nominated in three categories and it swept all the three awards. The Audi A6 was rated as the premium sedan of the year together with Audi RS5; which is available in coupe as well as convertible styles, was rewarded as the performance car of the year. Moreover in the imported car category, the full sized luxury saloon; Audi A8L was a clear frontrunner as it was bestowed with the award of imported car of the year.
Audi was not left behind when the conqueror in the Supercar segment was announced as Audi RS5; which had already received the award for performance car, shared its award with the Ferrari 458 Italia in the supercar category.

Tata Motors presence was not felt as its acquired British brand Jaguar Land Rover also known as JLR gripped two awards for Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, as it was honored with imported SUV of the year along with design of the year award.
The panel of Judges comprised of renowned personalities from the auto world namely Mr. Armaan Ibrahim the Formula Two and A1 GP Driver, Mr. V Sumantran the Executive Vice-Chairman at Hinduja Automotives Britain, Auto designer Mr. Dilip Chhabria and the Rallyist Mrs. Sarika Sherawat along with Mr. Siddharth Vinayak the Editor for Auto section, NDTV Network.
