BMW 7 Series launch soon after BMW X1 launch next year

If 2012 was the playground for SUVs and small cars, 2013 is hoped to be the arena for luxury cars. All the three car makers – BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz have planned a hectic schedule next year and the luxury cars will start showering early. Among others it will be the most hectic time for BMW. Where the launch schedule has new BMW X1 in the hit list, there will be the launch of BMW 7 Series sedan which is considered to be the most strategic for this German car maker. Another important thing to notice is that, BMW will launch the 7 Series in diesel engine option only initially. This is though strange as at this price segment, the nature of fuel loses its importance and it is power, styling, luxury and safety that take precedence.

As per the reports, the new 7 Series will be imported as completely knocked down unit and thus will be assembled in India. It is at the Chennai plant that the car will be assembled and this is going to soon establish the car in the industry. Also, foreign car makers start assembling a car in India only if it is a profitable affair and only if there are high prospects for the car. And BMW sees a bright future for this luxury saloon. Local assembly will also equip the car to compete well with Audi A8 and Mercedes Benz E Class.     

The decision to launch the car only in diesel engine variant seems to be in consonance with the current trend when most of the luxury cars sold in India have diesel heart. This is following the fact that the high end diesel engine used in these cars in India are as performance driven and mileage friendly as the petrol pots.
