BMW 7 Series produced between 2005 and 2008 to be recalled in US

BMW North America is all set to recall 45,000 units of its luxury saloon BMW 7 Series which was produced between year 2005 and 2008. The recall is being done to mend a software problem that could lead to a parked car to roll-away when the driver comes out of the vehicle. The German luxury car maker has proclaimed that the recall is for all those vehicles that are incorporated with Comfort Access option. However, the recall is confined only to the US models and the models produced during that period in India will not be affected.

BMW officials said that the car comes with a feature that enables it to automatically move into Park mode by pressing the start/stop button to switch off the engine. The problem is that when the drives presses the start/stop button two to three times back to back, this could lead to the shift of transmission to neutral mode rather than Park mode. In such condition when the driver comes out of the car and the parking brake is not used, then there is a probability that the car could roll away.

The company said that it will commence informing the owners about the problem from next month and also mentioned that the dealers would be able to mend the problem only by March 2013. This is the second time the model is being recalled in the US market, the company proclaimed last week only that it will recall 7,485 units of 7 Series produced between the year 2005 and 2007 for the problem of faulty door latches.
