Buying Mahindra Thar To Be Cheaper, New Variant in Pipeline

With more than 50,000 bookings in six months after its launch the Mahindra Thar SUV is enjoying a huge success in the Indian car market. To cater to the increasing need of the SUV the company even increased its production efficiency. Despite this it is not able to deliver the SUV to its customers. With this the increasing external disturbances like the second wave of COVID-19 and the delay in the supply of semiconductors has further extended the waiting period up to 11 months. The second generation of Thar was launched with the starting price of Rs. 9.80 lakh in three trims AX, AX(O), and LX.

According to recent reports with an increasing demand and the waiting period, the company has decided to replace the existing base variant of the SUV with the new base variant. The new base variant will be empowered with a new 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine and will be offered in both manual and automatic gear transmission systems. It will be offered with a 2WD option instead of the existing 4x4 driving mode.
 
It is believed that this new engine will mStallion turbo petrol engine which is not yet introduced in any of the vehicles manufactured by the domestic carmaker. It is expected to be priced below Rs 10 lakh. With the integration of the new engine the base variant of the Thar will be 100 kilos lighter.
