Honda City sales on track again after losing top spot in the segment
Honda City, one of the most popular mid size sedan that had lost its segment leader’s position in recent past, is again stared showing recovery in sales. In July 2011, the Honda City model stood at the second spot in its segment with the sales of 4,092 units, following Hyundai Verna at the top spot with 4,724 units.
The mid size sedan segment has been dominated by the Honda City since its launch in the country many years back. However, with the entry of a range of new competitors in last few years, the sales of the car had been continuously slowing down till recent past. The dominance of the car has been challenged by the new entrants like Volkswagen Vento, new Fluidic Hyundai Verna, Fiat Linea, Toyota Etios, Maruti SX4 and Ford Fiesta.

The major drawback with the City sedan is that it is available in only petrol version in the Indian market, while almost all of its competitors have been offered in both petrol and diesel variants. Moreover, there has been a change in buyer’s sentiments in recent months as more and more buyers are option for the diesel run cars.
To counter the fierce competition, Honda had offered mouth watering discount of up to Rs 50,000 in last second week of July 2011.
Taking clues from its rivals, the Indian unit of the Japanese auto giant Honda is gearing-up to launch a new generation version of the car in the Indian market by the end of this year. The new Honda City will be better in performance and more admirable in looks.
