Hyundai cars now pricier by up to Rs 20,878
Hyundai India on Friday announced price hike across its range of models in India. The prices of Hyundai cars have been raised by up to Rs 20,878 with immediate effect. The double whammy of spiralling input cost and fluctuation in the value of money led to this decision. Also the price difference between petrol and diesel has led to spur in petrol models of Hyundai.
Rakesh Srivastava, HMIL Vice President Sales and Marketing was quoted as saying that the company had to take this step to offset continual increase in input cost and sharp fall in the currency. He further mentioned that the price hike ranged between Rs 4,201 to Rs 20,878. Hyundai’s premium SUV, Hyundai Santa Fe witnessed the highest price hike, the SUV is nor pricier by Rs 20,787.
Other than Hyundai, car makers like Maruti Suzuki India, General Motors India raised car prices of late. The car makers despite slump in sales took this step as increase in input cost The South Korean car maker posted 4.25 per cent profit in its total sales, the company sold 52,024 units in January 2013. In the sale time period a year ago, Hyundai sold 49,901 units. In the Indian car market, Hyundai witnessed a hike of 1.19 per cent by selling 34,302 units against 33,900 units sold in the corresponding month last year.
On the export front, Hyundai registered a growth of 10.76 per cent with 17,722 units exported to other auto markets in the month of January. While in the same month in 2012, Hyundai exported 16,001 units. In the A2 segment cars like Hyundai Eon, Hyundai Santro, Hyundai i10 and Hyundai i20 accounted for 45,297 units while the A3 segment that comprise of Hyundai Accent and Hyundai Verna stood at 6,164 units in the month of January 2013.
On the other hand 55 units of Hyundai Santa Fe were sold in January, while 20 units of Hyundai Sonata and 488 units of Hyundai Elantra were sold in January 2013.
