Indian Army Electrifies Its Fleet Of Maruti Suzuki Gypsy
Recently, the Indian Army showcased Retrofitted Electric Gypsies during the recently concluded Army Commanders Conference held between April 17, 2023, and April 21, 2023. The Indian Army Cell, IIT Delhi - Delhi and Tadpole Projects, a start-up, constituted under the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Delhi specializing in EV retrofitting. had joined hands to electrify these old Gypsies.

Speaking about the Army Commanders Conference, is an apex-level biannual event that serves as an institutional platform for conceptual-level deliberations, culminating in important policy decisions for the Indian Army. For the first time, the conference was conducted in a hybrid format that exploited available technology for secure communication, wherein Army Commanders and other senior functionaries met virtually on the first day and then travelled to Delhi for balanced physical meetings on matters that require detailed deliberations.
On the first day of the conference, agenda points sponsored by various Command Headquarters were discussed, followed by an update from Commander-in-Chief Andaman and Nicobar Command and sessions by Principal Staff Officers of the Army Headquarters. The forum also reviewed progress on the activities charted out as part of 'Year of Transformation-2023' along with progress on Agnipath Scheme, digitisation and automation initiatives, Combat Engineer's tasks, work aspects, and budget management.
The Retrofitted Electric Gypsies showcased at the conference have a unique feature that adds seven years to the life of the vehicle, a two-year warranty on the motor, and a five-year or three-year warranty on the battery, which is extendable up to 5-7 years.
