Maruti Gypsy coming soon in a new avatar, diesel Gypsy in the offing

Maruti Gypsy has been the heartthrob of SUV lovers in India but it has been maintaining its features since long. Now, in order to create a fresh demand for Maruti Gypsy in India and when the Indian car market has seen much demand for SUVs, the Indian car maker has decided to give it a refreshingly new look and feel besides a new powertrain. The new Gypsy is expected to take on the contents and exteriors of the Maruti XA Alpha concept SUV revealed at the 2012 Auto Expo held last month in New Delhi. Thus SUV lovers can expect new Gypsy to have a powerful engine under the hood in addition to new looks. The new Gypsy price is expected to be Rs 8 lakh and an early 2013 launch should be on the cards of Maruti. It will be a close rival of Ford Ecosport and Renault Duster in particular.

Maruti Gypsy has been in oblivion for sometime but its image of a sturdy, performing SUV has not diminished with age. Still, Gypsy is the first preference of those who want an entry level SUV and want to go for some serious off-roading in India. In addition to this Gypsy has been in demand as a Government vehicle and which is why it has seen consistent sales since its inception. However, due to the recent decrease in the profit margin of the Indian car maker, Maruti Gypsy has also suffered meek sales. Thus in order to revive its sales in India, Maruti will be working hard to produce a new Gypsy avatar that will be performing well impressively more than the outgoing model.

The new Maruti Gypsy SUV is expected to get a weight reduction with the more use of aluminum and a plastic tank. The exteriors are expected to get more streamline compared to the existing bold looks. In the engine department, the new Gypsy will be getting the 1.2L K Series petrol engine and the new 1.3L DDiS engine. Both the engines are performing with 86 bhp and 89 bhp respectively. The addition of diesel engine is seen as a wise decision especially at a time when everything in diesel is in demand.
