Mahindra Thar Receives Four Star Rating In Global NCAP Test

The new generation of Mahindra Thar SUV by the home-grown carmaker Mahindra & Mahindra has succeeded in clearing the GLOBAL NCAP test by receiving four star rating. It is the third vehicle by the Mahindra after XUV300 and the Marazzo to clear the NCAP test with an encouraging star rating. Earlier the XUV300 and Marazzo MPV passed the test with five star and four star rating respectively. During the test the Thar was found safe for both the adult and child passengers and secured four star ratings in both the tests. The SUV comes equipped with dual front bag for the passengers as a standard feature.

According to the results revealed by the Global NCAP the Thar is capable of protecting the head and neck of the front row passengers. It also offers appropriate protection to their chests accordingly. The overall body of the SUV was considered stable during the test except the footwell area which was regarded unstable. The area of knee for the adult passengers has been designed to offer adequate safety. The SUV also offered complete protection to the child dummies used for testing the safety features equipped for the child passengers.

It would be interesting to know that the SUV performed extremely well during the UN95 test conducted for testing the side impact. It is an important test to receive five stars rating, unfortunately the Thar could not receive the required points during the front impact test to get the overall five stars rating.

Commenting on the results achieved by the Mahindra Thar, Mr. Alejandro Furas, Secretary General of Global NCAP, said, “Mahindra’s commitment to safer cars is once again displayed for consumers and shows that it is possible to offer good safety performance in the Indian market. It is encouraging to see manufacturers that also offer high levels of protection for children traveling in their vehicles. The Thar demonstrates the capacity of Mahindra to improve its fleet safety."
The same thoughts were shared by Mr. David Ward, President of the Towards Zero Foundation, according to him “Another good result for Mahindra which shows the manufacturer’s commitment to safety. It is very satisfying to see this growing vehicle safety trend in the Indian car market, which combines minimum regulatory requirements with the purchasing power of #SaferCarsforIndia informed consumers, helping to drive demand for ever safer vehicles."
