Maruti Alto is worlds No.1 small car again

The small car from Maruti Suzuki India, Maruti Alto that came into limelight in India in 2004, when it dethroned its stable-mate Maruti 800 in terms of sales figures and went on to become India’s most liked car. It has now been awarded with the title of best-selling small car across the globe, it is to be noted that this is the second time Maruti Alto has been honored with such label. The award was on the basis of sales that it achieved last year. Maruti sold over 3, 10,000 units of Alto in 2011, which makes it the only car to have sold more than 3, 00,000 units a year and this includes biggies like German auto giant Volkswagen and Italian carmaker Fiat.  

The nominees for the bestselling car included Volkswagen Golf and Fiat Uno. Both the companies sold their major portion of sales in Brazil.

India’s favorite small car Maruti Alto has come up with flying colors as far as sales figures are concerned. Last year, witnessed a number of new launches by the Indian and global automakers, which includes arch rival Hyundai Eon, but none was able to create the kind of expected ripple in the Indian auto market.

But the flagship model of Maruti that was as usual termed as underdog, emerged as a ‘champion’ by the year end with its unbelievable figures of sales. In the country, there are many small car makers, but the competitive price and class-leading service assurance of Maruti prevailed.

At the 2012 Auto Expo, Maruti revealed its future plans by showcasing their mini SUV Maruti XA Alpha in the concept form along with the display of company’s first MPV Maruti Ertiga, which is expected to be launched amid this year.
