Maruti may take around 4-5 months to clear away the Swift pileup

It was amid August this year that saw the launch of all-new improved Maruti Swift by Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), and at the launch event Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer announced that the new Swift is out to create new benchmarks in its segment.

And that was proved right-away when it initially received a hefty sum of 50,000 bookings for the vehicles then, which recently crossed 1 lakh mark milestone. But sadly in the same month the workforce of MSI went on strike and that caused an extremely low, or at times no production in Swift’s dedicated Manesar manufacturing unit based in Haryana. In the recent past the strike was called off.

The No.1 passenger auto maker in the nation has now announced that between the months of March and April 2012, the firm will be able to clear the pile up of bookings that are estimated to be more than one lakh and growing.

The Manesar trouble had left MSI’s consumer in dilemma, on whether to wait for the roll out of the cars or else switch to rival car manufacturer’s models. During this period of long waiting queues, the company only witnessed a booking cancellation of around two percent, these figures itself illustrate the sort of admiration and conviction that MSI carries among its consumers in the country.

Mr. MM Singh, Managing Executive Officer- Production, at MSI said that the company is confident to roll out 18,000 to 20,000 units of Swift per month after the second line is installed at the Manesar unit by first month of 2012. He added that by the first month of 2012 the firm expects to increase the roll out capacity by 800 to 900 units per day.

Currently with the first line installed at Manesar plant, the company is capable to manufacture around 550 to 600 cars per day per shift. Apart from new Maruti Swift the other plants of MSI produce Wagon R, Estilo, SX4, Swift Dzire and Alto.
