New Volkswagen Touareg, more details emerge, launch round the corner

Car maker Volkswagen seems to be only inches away from the new Volkswagen Touareg launch in India as it has updated its website and has put up details of the same on it. The new VW SUV launch in India nears and with it nears the fear in the domain of Audi Q7, Volvo XC 60, BMW X5 and other Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. Expected to be priced around Rs 52 lakh the VW SUV will be adding one more pricey SUV to the list and auto industry experts believe that it will just another addition and not so enthusiastic sales are expected as the model is not a mass product.

It has been almost eight months when VW showcased the Touareg at the 2012 Auto Expo held in New Delhi this year and since then India is waiting and waiting for the new SUV by VW. It might be the slowdown in the industry that has resisted the launch or it may be some policy decision but the festive season ahead has triggered launch plan of many cars and Touareg launch is one of them. On being asked about the prospects of the new SUV in India, the experts believe that it will just another SUV and it will not be able to give a straight fight to the segment leader BMW X5 or its baby BMW X3. It also will not be able to give much resistance or will not be able to dampen sales of the Audi SUVs Q5 or Q7.

However, the details on the Volkswagen website tell a different story. Stated to be powered by a 3L 245 PS, 550Nm engine VW seems to have put the highest power engine under the hood of this car. This four pot diesel engine will be mated to an eight speed automatic transmission that will be giving both convenience as well as the required power to the car. The SUV will have 18 inch alloys and the exterior appearance will be enhanced with the use of roof rails, Bi Xenon headlamps and LED daytime running lights. In addition to this, there are a lot of features inside as well as safety features mentioned on the VW website and these seem to make it a strong competitor of its rivals.
