Nissan India plans to launch 4 small cars in India
The Japanese automobile constructor Nissan is ready to unfold its huge wings in India by entering in the ever growing small car segment. After the recent roll out of Nissan Sunny sedan and Nissan Micra’s launch sometime back, Nissan think tank is planning to launch an array of small cars to cater the growing necessity of small cars in the country. The compact car will cost below INR 500,000.
Studies confirm that 7 out of 10 cars sold nationwide are small cars. Hence the low-priced car models are always the primary concern of the car manufacturer in the country. The ever increasing sale of compact cars in Indian auto sector is the sole reason that promotes the car makers to give attention on the hatchback segment than any other. In the upcoming couple of years the Japan based manufacturer will unveil three to four small cars on the Indian turf. The talks are going on regarding the same with the chief Indian vehicle producer Bajaj Auto. If the conversation turns fruitful then Nissan will be in a situation to launch couple of compact cars in the coming years.
Speculations are also made that Nissan will launch a small car priced at Rs 3-4 lakh by 2013-14 based on K2 platform and after that an even lower-price car will pursue that will cost around Rs 2-3 lakh. The Hinduja Group’s engineering wing Defiance is styling the 2-3 lakh compact car. Corporate Vice President of Nissan Motors in Africa, West Asia and India, Mr. Giles Normand said that the company was looking ahead to bring forth compact and inexpensive cars which range from very base of Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs lakh.
