Peugeot Citroen marks its debut
French leading car maker, Peugeot Citroen is ready to explore the Indian Auto market as the company is investing a huge amount of Rs. 4,000 crore in Chennai for the upcoming plant.
The fresh investment will be increasing stature for Tamil Nadu as India’s largest auto hub. Presently, the production of cars in the state is around 1.58 million per year. Leading car makers around the world entered the state in previous years like Renault-Nissan, Hyundai, Ford and BMW.
Peugeot Citroen’s plant will be situated near the state capital in the Sriperumbudur region. The state government stated in a press release that the capacity of the upcoming plant will be around 3,00,000 cars.
A request has been made to Tamil Nadu chief minister for support including land by PSA.
Few years back, Peugeot Citroen made its debut in Indian Auto market in partnership with Mumbai based Premier Automobiles group in the year 1990.But due to average performance of its model 309 and agitation in the state of Maharashtra by the workers the company had to move out.
