The New 2020 Honda City Ready For Launch Post Lockdown

The lockdown due to the spread of COVID-19 has not only affected the commercial activities but had also disturbed the launch of various highly awaited vehicles throughout the world. The Indian car market is not an exception to it, the prolonged lockdown has not only resulted in the huge loss to the industry but also shuffled the launch of various new cars that were slated for launch within this period. The fifth-generation of Honda City was also among such vehicles which would have gone for the sale during April.

But, now with lockdown been removed from most of the areas, the carmakers are getting ready to launch their new products through digital platform following the new guidelines determined by the central government. Interestingly, the Japanese carmaker Honda Motors is also going to launch the new 2020 Honda City soon in the Indian car market once the lockdown is completely taken out from the country. The news regarding this was conveyed by Mr. Rajesh Goel, Senior Vice President & Director, Marketing & Sales- Honda Cars, according to him "We do not intend to delay the launch, but as we start up the ramp-up is going to be slower and we can't start at peak level, so that is going to have some significant impact. But if I can use the word, it is almost around the corner and once we can freeze the date, we will announce it to everybody."

Mechanically, the new Honda City will be empowered with BS-VI compliant engines in both the petrol and diesel variants. The petrol variant will be empowered with a 1.5-liter petrol engine boosting the power of 119 bhp and the torque of 145 Nm. The transmission duties will be performed by a five-speed manual gear transmission system along with an option of the CVT system. The diesel variant will be also offered with a new BS6 compliant 1.5-liter engine and offered with the same transmission system as offered in the petrol variant.

Earlier it was believed that the new Honda City will be offered only the petrol variant with BS6 compliant engine, but the news regarding its launch in the diesel variant has been confirmed by Mr. Goel, in his words, "The new City will be both petrol and diesel and the percentage share (of diesel) we have always had at various times anywhere is between 20 percent and 25 percent and that's also a segment where it makes sense for us to continue with the diesel,"
Well, speaking about the dimensions and the new features, the 2020 Honda City will be 109 mm longer, 53 mm wider and 6 mm shorter than its existing version. The interior has been changed and all the switches installed for controlling the various operations have been replaced by the touch control system.
