Toyota Kirloskar gears-up to hire 1,500 employees by next year

It seems like the Indian unit of the Japanese auto giant Toyota has decided to leave no stone unturned in reaching to more and more Indian buyers by expanding its operations in the country. Toyota Kirloskar Motors announced on Thursday that it will hire as many as 1,500 new employees in its Indian operations by next year. The move will not only strengthen the manufacturing capability of the company in the Indian market but will also enable it to catch-up with the high demand in mass segment of cars.

Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM), is gearing up to invest heavily (Rs 1,650 crore) in the Indian auto market in order to enhance its manufacturing capacity by one lakh units and enhancing the localization content in its India portfolio cars. At one hand, the increased capacity will enable the company to boost its market share rapidly. On the other hand, the increased localization content in its cars will enable the firm to price its cars more competitively.

Speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of annual summit of Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA), Mr. Shekar Viswanathan, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Deputy Managing Director (Commercial), said that the company will be recruiting about 1,500 permanent employees to catch-up with its expansion demand. Some worker will also be hired on contractual basis.

By year 2012, Toyota will be expanding the total capacity of its two plants located in Bangalore to 2.1 lakh units as compared to existing capacity of 1.5 lakh units. The production will be majorly enhanced at the company’s second plant in Bangalore, where it aims to take the production capacity to 2.1 lakh units from 1.2 lakh units currently. The capacity at TKM’s first facility in Bangalore will be enhanced moderately to 1,00,000 units from existing figure of 90,000 units.
