The launch of this small and fuel economical hybrid car is also a result of Toyota feeling the heat from Honda Fit, a compact hybrid car. The small car from the Japanese counterpart had exceeded the sales of earlier Prius that was larger in size than the new Aqua, provoking Toyota Motors to launch a new mini hybrid vehicle.

Toyota Motors though do not offer any electric vehicle in its Indian portfolio, but has a vast line up in the offering such as sedans Toyota Etios, Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla Altis and hatchback Toyota Etios Liva along with MPV Toyota Innova and best selling SUV Toyota Fortuner.
