Volkswagen Polo Automatic in test phase, India launch certain
The Volkswagen Polo in India has written a success story of its own. Now, as per the latest information, the German car maker is testing an automatic gearbox version of it. The Polo Automatic is believed to be a worth addition to the lineup as alike the world, India is also fast moving towards the two pedal cars. Also the growing populations of women drivers as well as the congested traffic situation are conducive to the increase in sale of automatic cars in India. However, the Polo Automatic is in the test phase and an India launch is expected soon. The Polo price starts at Rs 4.67 lakh and the Automatic version is expected to be priced at Rs 7.4 lakh.

The polo 1.6 petrol will have the automatic gearbox and it will have six speed transmission as in the Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid. As per the road tests and user reviews of Vento and Rapid, the six speed automatic gearbox is highly responsive as it gives the car flexibility at higher speeds. With the automatic gearbox on, the Polo hatchback will be giving a tough time to Hyundai i20 that is the only prominent opponent in the segment. Also, it will be a worth addition as the i20 has recently been uplifted and if the Polo gets a new thing, it will surely attract new car buyers towards it.

However, as per the initial response, the Polo Automatic will not have much enthusiastic mileage and it will be a fuel guzzler. Two factors will be against it. First, it has 1.6 L engine that is powerful enough in itself and since the engine is big the fuel consumption is already high. Secondly, the introduction of automatic gearbox will further bring down the mileage, thus making it a car with convenience but less mileage. On the other hand the Polo Automatic is expected to have a price tag of Rs 7.4 lakh.
