Volkswagen Polo based SUV rendered, coming in 2016

Volkswagen Polo hatchback that has also celebrated the IPL Season 5 with its special IPL edition is soon to be joined by its crossover sibling. This Polo based SUV will be spearheading for the fast emerging market in India that will soon be populated by Renault Duster, Ford Ecosport and Maruti XA Alpha. However, it will be probably be the last one to join the fleet of SUVs in the country. Though at the stage of being a design only, the car has been given a shape and based on the patterns it has assumed a shape.

To be launched sometime four years from now, the Polo Crossover will be based on the famous Volkswagen MQB platform. Currently in the design and research wing of the German car maker, the VW Polo SUV will be highly frugal and competent to take over the segment. Since the SUV will be based on Polo, it is expected to be highly performing and the price tag will also be highly reasonable. As per the initial reflections, the Polo SUV will be priced around Rs 12 lakh and it will be competing with Mahindra Scorpio, Tata Safari, Force One SUV and Mahindra XUV 500.

The new Volkswagen SUV and the most affordable one will be powered by powerful engine and will be available in two wheel drive model with 5 speed transmission. As per initial information the new Polo SUV will be available in four petrol and three diesel engine options. Thus it will offer a range of engines to choose from as per the need of the car buyers. Besides, the SUV will be highly localized as Volkswagen is stepping up an engine plant in India and it will be ready by 2014. The Polo based SUV by Volkswagen will be one of the SUV that is expected to be produced at the new plant coming up.
