Volkswagen Polo’s top model discontinued, Fabia’s top model could be next

It is due to the meek sales of its high end petrol version that German car maker VW has discontinued the top of the line model of the Volkswagen Polo. The model discontinued is the Volkswagen Polo 1.6 L one and it has been reportedly pulled off the website of the car maker. Whether this is temporary or it is going to be the fate of Polo in India is unsure as of now but if that happens it means that the Polo 1.6 is another victim of the petrol price hike. Also, the Polo 1.6 had a price in which one could think of a sedan as well and thus there were seldom any takers for the car. Industry experts believe that it is a smart move by the car maker.

Meanwhile, the VW subsidiary Skoda is still displaying the 1.6 petrol car. The Polo line up starts at Rs 4.67 lakh and before the 1.6l model was discontinued its price was Rs 7.36 lakh that means at this price one could think of Volkswagen Vento that starts at Rs 7.18 lakh. Also Polo remained mum in terms of sales as its closest rival Maruti Swift has an entry level price of Rs 4.44 lakh and while Volkswagen Polo Petrol Trendline starts at Rs 4.67 lakh. But those fanatic about German engineering and European comfort always go for Polo and not Swift that is comparatively inferior in terms of comfort and coziness.

As per the information available, the VW is able to sell 3000 units of Polo every month while the Fabia hatchback’s situation is worsening and it is not selling more than 300 units monthly. In such a situation, it could be possible that a price revision or discontinuation of the top of the line models of Fabia could happen in the near future. Meanwhile, the Swift production has almost recovered and it is believed that the honeymoon days of its rival cars are over now.
