Volkswagen to launch new range of small cars under separate brand
Just a few days after the Japanese auto giant Nissan Motors announced its plans of reviving the small car brand Datsun, the largest European car maker Volkswagen has indicated to launch a separate brand for the small car in the emerging markets like Indonesia, Russia, China and India.
Rolling out a new separate brand for small cars will benefit the German auto giant two ways. At one hand, the car maker will be able to maintain Volkswagen’s image of a premium car maker; on the other hand, it will be having a greater opportunity of making the most of the high growth potential exists in the small car segments in these markets.

Moreover, a localized version of the premium hatchback Volkswagen Polo will be launched in the Indian market with a lower price tag of just €7,000.

In China, which has a high growth potential for the small cars, the company will be launching a low cost small car carrying similar dimensions as of Seat Toledo model. As per the recently published reports in a magazine, which these low cost small cars (price range €5,000 and €7,000) will be a part of Volkswagen Group, these won’t be carrying a VW badge, and instead will be carrying their own separate brand.
